  20. Normally, I transfer files (between unixes) over tcp/ip using ftp.

  22. But, I'm at a site where I have 2 problems

  24.   -the initial ftp login is very slow (5 minutes!)
  25.   -the connection closes after 900 seconds of inactivity
  26.  
  27. Also, I can't connect directly to other sites.  I need
  28. to ftp a gateway machine which asks me where I want to
  29. establish an ftp connection.  So I tell it and then I 
  30. get to wait.

  32. So, I'm thinking...
  33. how about if I telnet to the site (initial login takes about 30sec),
  34. and then use kermit to transfer files back and forth?

  36. Have you got this to work (between 2 unixes)?
